Navratri, the exuberant festival celebrating Goddess Durga for 9 days and nights, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. The air is filled with grandeur, lights, colours, dance and festive food.  Navratri is right around the corner and keeping up with the holy spirit of this festival, there’s no better way to embrace festivities than to shop. A specific color has been assigned to each day of this auspicious nine-day celebration that are believed to reflect different aspects of Maa Durga, and therefore, incorporating that particular color in your life during Navratri is considered auspicious. The nine color of Navratri are:

Navratri Day 1 Colour: White – it signifies purity and clarity of mind

The first day of Chaitra Navratri is also known as Pratipada. On this day, devotees worship an incarnation of Goddess Parvati named Shailputri. Wearing white on this day of Navratri invites the blessings of the goddess. The colour white is synonymous with purity and innocence and it is the symbol of eternal peace, faith and stability. It is believed that Goddess Durga cleanses the minds and spirits of those adorned in white and protects them from harm.

Navratri Day 2 Colour: Red – It represents new beginnings and feminine power

The second day of Navratri worships Goddess Brahmacharini, an incarnation of Goddess Paravati. This day, devotees wear red color outfits. Red is a symbol of new beginnings, passion, love and feminine power. Red is the most popular color of Chunri that is draped on the idol of the Goddess. This color fills the person with vigour and vitality. Wearing red on this auspicious day is said to bring out courage and bravery in devotees to defeat their sins and distresses.

Navratri Day 3 Colour: Blue – Associated with divine energy and calmness

On the third day of Chaitra Navratri, Goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped. On this day, participating in Navratri celebrations wearing blue color is said to be very auspicious as it is associated with divine energy and calmness. Blue also represents richness, tranquillity, elegance and unmatched panache. This royal colour signifies good health and prosperity and represents the finer things in life.    

Navratri Day 4 Colour: Yellow – It symbolizes happiness, energy and positivity

The fourth day is devoted to Goddess Kushmanda who is known for vegetation on earth. On this day, devotees wear the bright and cheery color yellow. Wearing this colour during Navratri signifies ushering in brightness and warding off negativity. This joyful colour fills people with a sense of warmth, unparalleled optimism and positivity. 

Navratri Day 5 Colour: Green – It represents prosperity, growth and nature

On the fifth day, devotees worship Goddess Skandamata as she is the goddess of strength and nature. Navratri Day 6 Colour– Grey – Associated with detachment and renunciation

An incarnation of Durga, Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of the holy festival. Grey is used to celebrate the Goddess who is considered the destructor of everything evil in the world.
